"Blenders" at Nuwandart Gallery in Ashland

The "Blenders" a 50 student, multi-age classroom of 1st through 5th graders from Lincoln Elementary in Ashland, will be showing their art at the Nuwandart Gallery the month of November.

The Opening Ceremony will be on the First Friday, November 7th, for the Art walk from 5 ­ 9 Pm. Come meet the artists for this fun event. There will be food and live music.

Art submissions were chosen, titled and priced by the children themselves. There will be ceramic pieces, leaf collages, fish paintings, Mexican sugar masks, pastels, pen and ink drawings, watercolors and sculptures. Proceeds from all sales will be divided between the artist (50%), the classroom (25%) and the gallery (25%). Prices will range from 25 cents to $10,000 and over 100 pieces of art will be shown.

Nuwandart is a 4 1/2 year old non-profit gallery run by Jochen Ziems, an artist himself. Jochen wanted to start a gallery to provide a venue for local artists to showcase their work. The artists he features are entering the field or are "undiscovered".

 

 

 

He regularly does shows/benefits with Ashland High Schoolers, but this is the First time he is showing children aged 10 and under! Nuwandart has 3 years in a row been rated #1 by "Sneak Preview, Best of Ashland".

The "Blenders" are a unique and wonderful group of children led by two incredible teachers, Barbara Heyerman and Mark Sherbow. This is their tenth year teaching the Blenders Class at Lincoln and it is unique in that in blends ages 6 ­ 11. Barbara Says about this show "This is an important way for children to make connections with the community they live in."
