NUWANDART SCRATCHES ITS WAY INTO THE NEW YEAR

On Friday, January 3rd, Nuwandart, located at 258 A St., is proud to open the year with an amazing show by Ulla entitled Scratchings. The show will consist of numerous pieces created over the last dozen years by local artist and teacher Ulla.

Ulla was born in Angola and spent the first 6 years of her life on a tobacco farm. One day while playing with her kids, she was reminded of a technique of layering crayons and then scratching images into the wax. She realized that she could make images like bodies and faces and other things. Six months and 60 paintings later she realized that she’d scratched herself out of her 12 year marriage.

10 years later she’s still happily scratching away, and we here at Nuwandart are proud to present to the public for the first time a wide variety of her amazing pieces.

After visiting Ulla’s home to assist her in selecting pieces for the show, Nuwandart owner Jochen Ziems remarked. “I was floored by the variety and positive nature of her work. There is so much light, love, and emotion being channeled through her and her work. It's a great show to start the New Year.“

Nuwandart is also happy to announce that its recent remodel was a huge success and they are very happy with the changes.
