NUWANDART PRESENTS:

JOCHEN ZIEMS
"My Life in a Show, or What is Art"

For the first time since its opening, Jochen Ziems, founder and owner of Nuwandart Gallery located at 258 A St., Ashland, will present a show of his own works titled My Life in a Show or What is Art. When asked why it took him so long Ziems replied "Running a gallery is a lot of work, and being so busy maintaining the gallery has kept me away from my true passion, art." Ziems went on to explain that his work is very controversial and has been rejected by most of the other venues in town. As a response to this he felt he must create his own venue in order to feel free and un-judged when showing his work.

What he soon realized was that there were many artists in Ashland who had similar experiences and also needed a place to show without the judgement of whether or not it could be sold to the tourists. Since that time, almost 4 years ago, Jochen has been swamped by artists trying to show their work. Over the last few years Nuwandart has grown to be one of the most talked about and visited galleries in Ashland. It has been voted favorite First Friday Gallery 3 years straight by Sneak Previews Best of Ashland and always draws huge crowds for the First Friday Artwalk.

Ziems show has over 30 pieces of what Ziems calls byproducts of his life, growing up to an adult. It's kind of a journey through the years of an artist. Many mediums have been utilized for Ziems to express his outlook, on love and struggle within a simple life.

"My life is full of art in every waking and sleeping moment. Sometimes I've taken the time to try and capture thoughts, emotions and feelings in the form of lasting art in order to create a bridge to the observer, in an attempt to translate or express, through art, the crazy world we live in." stated Ziems. "I can't say I'm a great artist, I'm somewhat of an entrepreneur when it comes to art. I'm fascinated with different mediums. I easily get bored of too much oil or clay over and over. The show is colorful and rich with ideas and concepts of how art really is a byproduct of our soul."

The show will run through the month of July and will open Friday July 2nd at 5pm. For more information please contact the gallery at 488-4ART.
