On August 6, for the First Friday festivities Nuwandart, located
at 258 A St., will premier the works of Reggie Jackson, known
as Red. Red recently moved to Ashland from the Bay area with
nearly 70 pieces of original artwork. Nuwandart was shocked
to hear that he had never had a real show and jumped at the
chance to show this amazingly emotional and talented artist.
Red is a self taught artist with no formal training yet his
work exhibits an eye and talent reminiscent of Van Gogh, and
Picasso.
"I
create art because I'm bored, or sad, or happy, or just sometimes
to show off, I have no art schooling, but I consider my art
a gift from the universe." says Red.
Gallery owner Jochen Ziems stated that this artwork is some
of the most emotional and free example of art he's seen in a
long time, he finds it so refreshing that he feels that there
may be hope for Ashland's conservative art community yet. Red
paints primarily with acrylics and his work shows great contrast
and color. This very exciting and edgy show will run through
the month of August.
